Gel polish hardens (“cures”) under light. Some gels are made for UV light, some for LED. Many home lamps are labeled “UV LED” and cure both, which is the simplest choice if you're not sure what your polish needs. Check the polish bottle or box for what it asks for.
Gel brands list a cure time for each coat. Preset timer buttons make it easy to repeat the same time every coat instead of counting.
Look for a lamp you can fit your whole hand in, or plan to cure your thumbs separately so they sit fully under the light.
